Cabin 28 floorplan

Postby meankitty » Tue Mar 09, 2010 2:54 pm

Even though the cabin 28 home page is down, I managed to get to the floorplan through a website called http://www.archive.org. Here it is------

I think we discussed that back a couple of years ago. I found many inaccuracies.

That just looks like a hurried drawing from recollections. The proportions are not correct.

I remember a photo showing the view from the back bedroom, this drawing shows the door hinges being on the opposite side of the frame from what is in the photo.

It's close, I guess it's better than nothing...

Do you mean the back door leading to the deck or the back door that leads to the steps?

Based on this layout, I believe it is possible Justin could have seen something from the bedroom door. I had the impression that the hallway was longer and the bedroom door further back.

Didn't realize the Seabolt cabin was so close either.

Looking at the lay out, justin would have had to see tina come out of the bedroom. Why didnt justin motion to tina to stay in the bedroom or run to there room so she to could go into the closet with her brothers?

Folks, one thing to remember is that the photos on pages 70, 71, and 72 DO NOT depict cabin 28, while the two on page 73 do depict the actual back stairs.

I had missed the part about the stove, I was just trying to match the construction details.

Yes, no one has ever questioned the vantage point that Justin had. The only question is if he was able to see anything that occured in the east half of the front room.

Celt, that is a brilliant observation...

It probably happened to fast. Maybe he was watching what was going on in the living room and when Tina came out (probably took here mere seconds) he didn't even have time to think.

Or maybe he was too terrified and was frozen in place?

He was 12 & damn sure wasn't trying to be a hero.

Doubt we'll ever know for sure.

Pages 70, 71 & 72 of what, the book? Is that where meankittys diagram came from?

Pretty small cabin. From Justins description and based on where Dana and & Sue were found, every thing must have happened near the couch. When Dana ran it was towards the back (he must have been closer to the kitchen). Tina came out of her room and was taken out the back (pretty easy for Justin to see that).

Of course this is if you believe Justins statement and I do believe some of it.

My diagram came from the cabin 28 home page. I had to go to an internet archive to get it.

Celt, I didn't think of that. Of course Justin could have been either too far away from his door to signal Tina, or maybe he couldn't because the perp was just outside. I'm thinking maybe the perp was at the boys room door with his hand on the doorjamb when Tina tried to sneak out to go for help, and that's when she got caught.

floorplan design

Postby dmac » Thu Jun 03, 2010 7:33 pm

I'm the one who photoshopped the above floorplan image. A few years back, I did some design work on the cabin28 site, and the floorplan was one project.

Everything in the design is guestimated from a handful of dodgy images of the cabin available to me at the time, as well as scant information available on the web.

As the board at Cabin28 became infiltrated by people openly and actively undermining progress in the case, I washed my hands of all involvement at the site. Again, that was years ago.

hallway looks on both doors and into each of the girls and boys room
but not an overshot of the living room except the lower corner of it and
I remember looking in and seeing the kitchen and living room from the
front door but never went inside the cabin itself...but i could not see the
doors of both bedrooms nor the bathroom from the front door.

you must have a really good memory if you are able to remember small details about the one time you visited there. was there a reason you didnt go inside?

You can see it by the floor plan Meankitty posted at the beginning of the thread...and at the time you could not see straight though to the kitchen...there was a little wall at the kitchen...

i was referring to the last half of his post. seems strange that he cant remember important details but can remember stuff like this. maybe a mental block. but i dont think i would even remember what i saw at a house i only stood outside of 30 years ago. im curious to know who all was there when he went. did he introduce himself. was he not welcomed in and thats why he stood outside? or did he just feel uncomfortable for some reason. and does he remember how soon prior to the murders he went there? i may be beating a dead horse here but im interested in seeing how much he really remembers. :?

Be curious to know the circumstances of "seeing" the inside of the cabin, mutt43. Why were you there and upon what occasion did you have a look see? Did you knock on the door and it was answered? Confusion here.

I have dropped them at the top of the Keddie grade several times
before the murders..took them to Keddie in other words...only
once did i actually go into keddie during that time, BEFORE THE
MURDER and stood at the doorway of the cabin..to make that clear.

Shelia what i said you can partial see in the kitchen and not the
whole thing and when I stood at the doorway...I saw just a small
line into the kitchen and I was halfway in the doorway and out...
I never felt comfortable being in that cabin because of my age
difference and I was a froshman in college and they were still in
High School. I was only though a few years older than Dana and
John but over 18 years old and a colege student..I think you would
understand what that would look like.

I dont really remember the outline of the cabin clearly but the sketch
looks close to it and it was some 29 years ago and i have been to
many other places to remember them all.

I WAS MORE OF A RIDE AROUND TOWN THEN a friend I think of it
now and even think of that of Monte and Laronda..I told Kitty today
I still miss Quincy but now that I look back, I think i was being used
by some locals for rides and alot more!

A SHAME BECAUSE I TRULY THOUGHT THEM AS FRIENDS and it hurts
me to think they did this!

I still don't understand what you were doing "halfway in the doorway and out... ". Were you dropping them off? picking them up? waiting for them? something else? What was the occasion for you to be in the doorway of Cabin28? Why were you at the cabin that time when all the other times you "dropped them off"?
And what was the "A LOT MORE" that you were being used for? Were the boys the only ones who "used" you or were there adults who used you as well?
